Chopard Unveils a Masterpiece of Sound and Precision: The L.U.C Grand Strike Marks a New Era in Haute Horlogerie

09 Jan 2026

Chopard celebrates thirty years of its Manufacture in Fleurier with a creation that feels destined to become a benchmark in modern watchmaking. The L.U.C Grand Strike, the Maison’s most complex chiming timepiece to date, unites technical mastery with emotional resonance, presenting a grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie and minute repeater built around Chopard’s proprietary sapphire crystal gongs. It is a watch designed not merely to tell time, but to express it through sound with unprecedented clarity.

Developed over more than 11,000 hours of research and refinement, the L.U.C Grand Strike embodies the Maison’s pursuit of innovation at the highest level. Ten proprietary patents underpin the movement, including five created specifically for this model. For collectors who follow the evolution of Chopard’s chiming expertise—from the L.U.C Strike One in 2006 to the award-winning L.U.C Full Strike of 2016—this new timepiece represents a natural yet breathtaking continuation of the journey.

Housed in a 43 mm case crafted from 18-carat ethical white gold, the watch reveals its inner architecture through a dial-less design that showcases the calibre L.U.C 08.03-L. Two polished hammers at the 10 o’clock position signal its chiming capability, accompanied by a sliding selector that allows the wearer to choose between grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie or silent mode. Below, a 60-second tourbillon adds a dynamic counterpoint to the mechanical ballet happening above it.

The sapphire monobloc gong system remains one of Chopard’s most groundbreaking innovations. Machined from a single piece of synthetic sapphire crystal, the gongs and dial crystal vibrate together, projecting sound outward with remarkable purity. The chime, tuned to a C# – F natural interval, carries a distinct brilliance and resonance often described by the Maison as the Sound of Eternity.

Inside the movement, 686 components operate in harmony, supported by two mainspring barrels that separately power the timekeeping and chiming functions. The grande sonnerie mechanism can perform a full twelve hours of uninterrupted chimes when the sonnerie barrel is fully wound, while the main timekeeping barrel delivers a 70-hour reserve. The movement is certified by both the Poinçon de Genève and the COSC, positioning the L.U.C Grand Strike as one of the most comprehensively rated chiming watches of its era.

Every aesthetic decision reflects Chopard’s commitment to pairing innovation with heritage. The plates and bridges are crafted from German silver, a material favoured for both its warmth and the patina it develops over time. The white gold case combines satin-brushed and polished surfaces to catch the light with refinement, while solid gold hands and hour markers provide a final touch of quiet luxury.

As Chopard approaches the 30th anniversary of its Manufacture in 2026, the L.U.C Grand Strike stands as a tribute to vision, technical courage and the timeless dialogue between watchmaking and sound. It is a reminder that in the world of haute horlogerie, time can be measured in seconds — but its emotion is carried in resonance.
